In this hands-on outdoor summer workshop, you’ll learn the basics of woodburning using an electric pyrography iron and a variety of specialty tips. We’ll work on cedar (naturally weather‑resistant and perfect for high‑contrast indoor or outdoor pieces) while exploring how heat, pressure, and line work come together to create bold, durable designs.

To start, each student will create a simple stencil‑based sign that may be installed at Fireweed Community Woodshop to help increase visibility of our first aid kit, exits, and accessible bathroom. This makes the class a blend of service‑learning and skill‑building, with your work contributing directly to our shared space.
After warming up, you’ll move on to a personal project of your choice. Make your own wall art, house numbers, garden markers — or whatever you dream up! You are also welcome to arrive prepared with your own stencil or printed image (up to 16" x 16"). You’ll leave with a finished cedar pyrography piece ready for your home, garden, or studio, plus the confidence to continue woodburning on your own.
No experience needed; all materials provided. A perfect way to spend a summer evening in the shade at Fireweed Community Woodshop.

The materials fee is $10 and is included in the admission cost.
